Someone was telling me about this the other day. Apperantly its like radio where the channels are just floating around in the air. You just have to tap into them with your satalite. I'm gonna look into this foe sheezy.

I remember back in the day with direct tv cards, but they always changed the codes.

go to www.dssrookie.com bro, im really not a PRO at it but that site has ALOT of great info. Its not illegal to BUY the box, its illegal to modify the box to recieve the programming but theres really no way they can prove that.

if you go to www.wumarkus.com there is this guy (among others) that have been sued in civil court by DTV. DTV didn't have any hard proof as weather this guy was pirateing they just new he baught an IRD from a dealer and that was enough for them to go on. it's not about who's right or wrong, it's about who has the power. DTV has money to take you to court and you probably don't have the money for a lawyer to fight it much less file a counter suit. well, there's my 2 cents. but yeah, i am really lookin into this free ----, i mean we live in a free country and yet it costs so ------ much to live, you know? i'd just becareful as to what dealer you buy from. cause it seems they are bustin dealers and attaining all there sales records and for DTV and Dishnetwork thats all they need. thats what that guy said what happened to him anyways.

well you got to think, the reciever you are buying is 100% LEGAL its an FTA (free to air) reciever. People use them to pick up international channels which are free. What you do in your home AFTER you buy the 100% LEGAL reciever is a total different story.

I did this for a while with Directv about 3-4 years ago, they switched to the HU cards, then that stopped working. I think I lost a lot more in the equipment cost than I gained with the free tv for a few months. It was really nice while it lasted. I don't think they've made any progress on cracking the newer directv cards. If you say you can get dish network free using a directv dish, I might look into it again, I had always assumed that they pointed at different satelites.

You're right, the only illegal part is the actual decrypting of an encrypted signal, so buying the equipment isn't illegal, but like striker said, they can still harass you legally.

damn straight, thats all it's about, money and power. but there are the ird's with the access cards, but i hear that there are ones without access cards. i think i read about it on DSSRookie.com somewhere. i'll try to find the link. thats what that guy got busted for, was buying another access card, and he said it was a legal card made by DTV, from a another person on ebay and he got slammed for it. he spent money to fight it but then his funds ran dry and he had nothing left to file a counter suite. so he had to pay court costs, pay the majistrate for their time, and he had to pay his lawyer plus DTV. and dtv alone was over a 25,000 dollar lose all to itself. he said when he was done he was about 50,000 in debt. it really sucks, thats when he said that 'if i was smarter i would have bought a viewsat (or someother brand) that doesn't need the access cards.' but i don't know for sure.

oh and as to the question about dish compatibility, i am pretty sure that any dish will work, all they do is recieve any encripted channals and it's up to the ird to unscramble them. i used to be a tech for DTV and i am pretty familiar with sat systems. well, there's my 2 cents for the day.

my father just stopped dealing the viewsat last month.. he kept getting threatning letters from dish network.. He was totally on the up and up but he figured he would drop the product( as it wasnt really making him all that much money) rather then have to deal with these ******.
