Default anyone here try to pressure fry fried chicken?

ive decided to make this thread after seeing junkyard racers recipe. i would have asked there. but i dont want to jack his thread.

i read about pressure frying online.. and how dangerous it was.. so one day.. i grabbed fire retardent boards. built up 4 walls outside. and had a propane burner. and tried it. i had like 4 fire extinguishers on hand. and an assload of sand. and the hose (which i found out later on would have made it alot worse, lol).. to douse the flames if anything had happend. and nothing did...

ive done it about 8 other times after that. inside the house. on a normal stove. no accidents no nothing. and i just inspected the pressure cooker everytime before i tried it. and just take the pressure cooker off after its done. put it into the sink. and run cold water on it till it stops hissing. take the presure gate off. let it hiss some more. then open it up. and voilla!

i swear. that was the juciest ------- chicken i ever had in my life. i swear. even better than kfc. i got addicted to it.
ive never seen a story of where a pressure cooker someone was frying with exploded. has anyone else here every tried it?

i swear. i think thats part of the secret recipie kfc uses. you fill the pressure cooker. season the chicken. bread it. then reseason. then drop it into the oil. and cover. it takes like 45 minutes. but i swear its like the sickest ----.

i used a t-fal pressure cooker. it fell off the top shelf. and that put a big *** dent in it.. so the last time i tried it was like a year ago, so i went to the store to pick up a new pressure cooker. and all the new ones look flimsy and they all look like an accident waiting to happend. so i said ---- it. i went into the local pawn shops. and looked for one.. but they all had fucked seals.. and im not gonna ---- with that.

so i need to know if anyone here has tried it. and if you have. what kinda pressure cooker u using?

pressure cookers are scary as ----. to kill yourself all you gotta do is open up that lid while its pressurized.

heres an example of what might happend with hot oil. and a fire
www.ul.com/turkeyfryers/fryer.mpg

now imagine if that were oil under pressure. and it exploded and coated the entire insides of your house. AND caught fire. yeah.. that wudnt be a pretty sight... god damn it. i want to try to fry me up a batch.

you dont need pressure cooking.

the act of frying sears the skin and keeps moisture in.

pressure at that point is useless

He speakth the truth!

Frying the skin keeps the moisture in. Hence why people fry turkies now.

turkey frying has been arround ever since i could remember.

i got this online:

In pressure frying, meat and cooking oil are brought to high temperatures while pressure is held high enough that the water within is prevented from boiling off. This leaves the meat very hot and juicy. It is a variation on pressure cooking and is mostly done in industrial kitchens.

This should be only attempted with specialized equipment made for pressure frying. It is not safe in a household pressure cooker.

taken from www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pressure_frying

Not a day goes by that I don't get a request from someone looking to turn their pressure cooker into boiling oil bomb. If you are reading this now, you are about to find out that you absolutely CANNOT use your pressure cooker as a pressurized deep fryer.

http://missvickie.com/howto/fry/kfc.html

heh.. boiling bomb.. ghetto.. dont try it unless you can find one of those old tfals. i did it more than 8 times.. and i never had an accident. just remember.

turn the heat up all the way. let it boil for like 40 minutes. then go to the stove and remove the lid right away. as quickly as you can

no seriously. dont try it with any of the new ones. they all ------- suck. unless someone can say otherwise.. and point out a model they are currently using..

hahahaha this cracked me up

"Yes, there are some diehards that insist that they have successfully used their pressure cooker as a fryer for 30 years with no troubles at all. Hopefully their lucky streak will continue, but it's like a game of Russian Roulette. Just because you've "heard" of someone who used their pressure cooker to deep fry successfully, that does not mean you will. Using a large amount of boiling hot oil under pressure is a potential for an extremely, dangerous disaster. Unless you invest in a pressure FRYER It's not worth the risk of being burned, or endangering your family, by exploding boiling oil just for a $9 bucket of chicken"

home made kfc anyone?

just dont try to do it with kids in the house. and keep fire extinguishers on hand, WATER WILL NOT PUT OUT AN OIL FIRE.
you need baking soda. flour. or sand. or those special type of fire extinguishers. DONT BUY THOSE UNIVERSIAL EXTINGUISHERS CRAP. i used 4 fire extinguishers all made for oil fires.

BTW, its still worth the risk. and as soon as i find one of those old pressure cookers. or someone tells me one they use. i will be trying it.

the point is though, once the skin is seared, it forms a shell in which the water can not escape.

so even if it were to boil, it woont escape and just return to its condensed form.

also in order for the water to boil inside the turkey, you would need a air supply, which their isnt in the oil.

most people inclufding ymself use a turkey frying seup, which is just a big pot, setup over a propane burner.

you can get them mad cheap, or if your hmt, you can make your own.
