Anyone build AR's?

Re: Anyone build AR's?
My brother builds them. I think he has 2 fully built ones and 2 different upper receivers. The one he has built to shoot .223 is ------- beautiful...I don't know the exact specs (i could find out for you) but he's the kind of guy that goes all in or not in at all. I'll ask him is he has any pics and then i'll post them.
The other built one is chambered for .22LR rounds, just for ------ around since you can pick up 525 rounds of .22 for $10
The extra receivers he has are for 5.56NATO and 7.62x39 rounds.

Re: Anyone build AR's?
Ive been reading a lot and wont be starting my first one until the summer. From what ive read just pick up a complete upper from gunbroker.com. For the lower you need to decide if you want serial numbers or not. For no serial numbers (80% complete lower) i like http://www.ar15plus.com/ if serial numbers are fine i like http://www.khalan.com/shop/default.htm
Putting the lower together is pretty easy. AR-15 Plus has a really good write up. I helped with the machine work for an 80% for my boss last summer and it was really easy. It turned out really nice too (cough fully auto).

a full auto one would be badass. I've been reading on these lately and im trying to get started, but I an HMT at heart and therefore am cheap. So I havent bought anything yet because i dont want to be overpaying. But sofar it looks as if the lower is the most difficult part, and the uppoer just bolts right onto the lower when its said and done?

Once the lower receiver is more than 80% complete it is a "gun" therefore it must be shipped to a licensed dealer. If its less than 80% done than its just a paperweight. As far as legality....at least in Wisconsin it is totally legal to build a gun and since the lower receiver is the "gun" part of a gun thats all you need to make, or complete in the case of an 80%. The rest can be purchased elsewhere. You can also legally own a fully auto weapon in Wisconsin with the right permit and taxes. Same as silencers.
There are take down pins the hold the upper to the lower. Its a very very very easy gun to take down and put together.
Another cool thing about building your own is that you are not limited to the .223. You can make pretty much anything between a .22 and a .50.

Oh yeah. So if you build it yourself (buy an 80%) then you dont need to register it. If you buy a completed lower you do need to register it.
But then again dont you live in California? If so im pretty sure all of this would be illegal. Are you guys even allowed to own pellet guns?
