Default Anybody else into fish tanks? Added pics this time. X2.

I know im not the only one here who is interested in them. I have been looking around a lot recently on craigslist and classifieds sections for a good (near mint) condition at least 55 gallon aquarium but that doesn't seem to be working. So the other day i was at petsmart and found out they have brand new 55 gallon aquariums for $109 with the petsmart card. So on friday when my check hits ill be picking one up. Im either going to go with this filter.....

http://www.petsolutions.com/350B-Pen...63+C99999.aspx

Its rated for up to 70 gallons and flows 330 gph. I read somewhere while researching that a filter should flow 5 gallons for every 1 gallon of water, so 5x55=275. 300>275 so it should work pretty good.

On the other hand, i would really like to try an under gravel filter, since its an excellent biological filter. But as to the dimensions of the tank and what type of the bottom liner things to use, i don't know. So im pretty lost still on what to get for that. Hell i don't even know what kind of fish i want to get yet, Maybe some sharks of some kind and a couple cichlids, both aggressive fish, but the cichlids will outgrow the sharks.

I already have 4 smaller aquariums. 1 10g, 2 20g, and 1 30g tank but i want something bigger now. And everything i have read says its actually easier to maintain a larger tank than a smaller tank.

I also want to add one of these to my exotic animals collection.

But at $100 a pop, im going to be one broke *** person here soon cuz just having one is kinda boring.

Oh yeah, before i forget, this site right here has some pretty good deals on larger aquariums.

UPDATE

Finally got around to posting some pics of a few of my tanks.

This is the saltwater i just started about a week ago. Just 20 pounds of agragite and 4 pounds of live rock right now, its still cycling at the moment. It should be done in about a week or so then i will be getting a shark or something. Oh yeah, this is a 30 gallon.

This one kinda sucks.

This is my girlfriends baby red ear sliders tank. Couple of gold fish in it too. Really needs a good cleaning but i just don't have the time right now, maybe tomorrow. This one is a 20 gallon long.

This is my 20 gallon freshwater tank. Just some of those gold fish that go from black to orange sometimes, an oscar, and 3 algea eaters. Now that im looking at it, it looks crooked....

And this is my 2-3 year old Red Ear Sliders tank. Its a 55 gallon breeder terrerium with 24 gallons of water in it. The lights are, on the far left a uva, the bright blue one is a uvb, and the right is a 150 watt heat bulb for basking.

I have a couple others, but i can't get a picture to come out right becuase of the low lighting, but im off tomorrow so ill try and fix that. Oh yeah, i ended up buying that filter above. Came out to like 30 and some change shipped. Im going to use it on my quarintine/hospital tank once this one is all cycled and ready for fish.

If you equate death with being high then yes.

under gravel really needs a large pickup to flow anything worthy of suction, they usually just suck the area near the pickup. back of tank take up space. get a 110v water-safe pump, mount it in a stand under the tank, and build a filter setup from 6" dwv pvc and endcaps. THEN you can use that as an under gravel, and keep enough volume flowing for sufficient cleaning. also, get catfich/plecos/algae eaters.

I have a pretty badass aquarium. Honestly, i run one shitty wishper filter thats made for like a 10gallon, and i have around a 45gallon tank. I never have problems. But then again, i have massive amounts of plant life, and a pretty full spectrum ecosystem in there. Definitely an awkward combo of creatures. I have a florida gar, a tiger oscar, a siren, two ropefish, two plecos, two loaches (forget which kind), 3 oregon newts, try to keep it stocked with feeders (I buy 50 feeders at least once a week) and I have two dinosaur bichirs in my smaller "growing/feeding tank" that i'm just waiting on so they get big enough that they won't get eaten. But its definitely important to have a good amount of gravel in the bottom to hold the detritus and ---- that doesnt get filtered, and it will eventually form a sort of soil for your plants to grow in. And real plants are a must. I'll take some pics of mine later, its my pride n joy... just sucks i move so often, its a pain in the *** and likely traumatizing for the little guys

I am running the Marineland C-220 Multi-stage cansiter filter. It works awsome and flows great. has different layers of filtration in it and wasn't to spendy. Like $125 or something.
It has
Foam Pads
Polishing Pads
Ceramic Rings
And Carbon bags for filtering.
