Any way to find out if a motor's "hot"
So I picked up this complete z6, tranny, wiring harness, virgin p28, axles and some other random ---- for $400 at some shop that looked sketchy as hell. I dont want to stick a bunch of money in this to get pulled over and find out its stolen and get it taken away, so is there any way to look up to see if this thing is hot? I contemplated just calling the police but dont want to be out my $400 and a motor, this thing is mint and I've been looking for one forever. If nobody know's I think I'm calling the cop shop on monday. Obviously a carfax would tell me but is there any way to find out the vin # from the numbers stamped on the block?

Not really. They will still take the motor/car even if you are unaware that it is stolen. And no they will not be compensating you for the loss. It is the buyers responsibility to know.

call the non emergency police number, and ask them. in seattle it's 206.296.3311. tell them it's a non-emergency, and explain your situation. they will run the vin and tell you what the story is.
