Didn't read them all but this one:

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use. ~ Galileo Galilei

Is against being an idiot, not against God.

I don't have any quotes to add to JD's thread here, but I do have a friend that went to college for theology and all that crap. He graduated with a master's degree, and even though he goes through the routine still, he says he doesn't have faith in it any more just for the simple fact that the things he learned in his 8 years at college pretty much taught him that the bible is full of ---- and most of it can be disproved. He also said that even though it was a college dedicated exclusively to theology and religion (mostly christian and catholic), at the same time they would compare the Koran and other religion's writings against the bible...and it pretty much boiled down to they're all the same basic story. Even the bible as we know it today isn't the whole story, it's just bits and pieces of ancient writings that were compiled by a Roman ceaser (who was a "pagan" btw) using the parts that would make "God" look good so as to gain favor with the rising christianity sects in Rome. Don't believe me? Do a search on it...hell, he was never even baptized until he was on his death bed, just figuring he could cover all his options before he died. :P I could go on and on about this crap...I had to deal with my mom shoving it down my throat 24/7 when I was groing up so I know it backwards and forwards...which makes it all the more fun to disprove and discredit.

The thread is anti-religion. Nothing here is anti-god.

And behold, a pale horse, and he who sat on it, his name was Death and hell followed with him.

Revelation 6

They had some pretty hardcore quotes in the Bible.

Orient yourself to time, place, and situation of the man being quoted. Gallileo and everything he stood for was opposed by the church. Gallileo was a devout christian and tried to introduce his theories - after sitting on them for a number of years so as not to rock the boat - through correct Church channels. Gallileo was tried, and tortured, as a heretic until he recanted cold hard scientific fact. His statement is, by the nature of the man's life and what he endured, the definition of anti-religion.

Ready to recant your comment on the quote?
