And that's just how it works.
BS... I hate it when people say that. If you know what your doing you can get a really good balance between cheap, reliable, and fast. Building a homemade turbo kit will make your car pretty fast and it won't cost a lot of money. Reliabilty depends on tuning and fuel management.

Well, a powerful car usually eats drivetrain parts, and beefing up the drivetrain is expensive, more so expensive than beefing up the engine in many cases.
This is a fact.
It can't be considered reliable if you blow the gearbox or clutch every few months. Even less so if you can't take it out for a top speed run without melting something.
It takes a good drivetrain to survive drag racing, but it takes a good motor to survive sustained top speed runs.
