I just got back from a cruise and we stopped at Costa Maya to tour some ruins. A man of Mayan ancestry discussed this with us and explained a little bit.
It's not the end of the world at all, just the end of an era. There are 4 eras in Mayan history, with the human form being a little better each time. We are currently in the 3rd era, where humans are made from corn. I believe the first era they were clay, 2nd era they were wood, currently are corn, and it is not said what they will be made from in the 4th era. Who knows
