1987 626 turbo
anyone know much about mid to late 80's mazda 626 turbo's?
i recently bought a 1987 626gt factory turbo and it runs pretty good but there isin't much dedicated info on the
mazda 626 from 86/87
if i could get some help in that aspect or some guidance twards some info on my car that would be great
also the turbo on this thing is tiny anyone know what size it is?
im thinking a 2g dsm t25 turbo (secondhand and cheap) would be a good replacement
i mean dsm's have the same size engine but make more power from the factory
the mazda is only rated at 120hp from the factory but like i said the turbo is tiny
a larger turbo i know would really wake this car up

Hey Corn, if you want to go with the stocker size turbo, I've got an RHB5 I just pulled from my 1986 626gt - perfect condition, 0 shaft play 86k original miles. I'm not sure why you would want to put the stock turbo back on, but who knows. Also, take the exhaust manifold off and give it a very good look. They are prone to cracking - especially around number 2 for some reason.
I'm in the process of getting mine back up and going, but I haven't found much info on the net about engine management/tuning. Let me know if you find info I missed. I would appreciate it.

it's rated at 120hp
150ft-lbs
im just hoping for say 160-180whp
i was actually thinking of a t25 because it would still be small and spool fast enough but not run out of breath like the stocker
can things like turbo edit and chrome be used to tune the stock mazda ecu?

try Mazda MX6 Forums: MX6 Forum, they have a lot of info on the 1st gen mx-6s, which were identical, drivetrain wise, to the 626.

The unforunate part is that most people on MX6 use RRFPRs or Megasquirt. I've seen mention of something called 'Probe Tune' but I've not been able to find much about it yet with google.
That and the first gen MX6 came with a 2.2 intercooled turbo ... essentially a stroked version of the 2.0 non-intercooled turbo that corn and I have. But the ECUs are different, and there aren't alot of them floating around. I'd prefer not to go with megasquirt, mostly because it seems rather complicated for my first turbo buildup.
There has to be something better then an AFC or MAFT out there.
