It is caused by the wheel moving forward before the chassis because of the flex of the suspension bushings. After going forward enough, the tire loses traction and violently scoots backwards. This motion is repeated over and over.
Traction bars keep the hub rigid with the chassis, thus eliminating the effect. There still may some because the lower control arm now will pivot a little bit where the traction bar is mounted. This pivoting motion is very small and is a massive reduction from without the bar.
Just get a traction bar.
