Default 0 to blown in a week..

This summer I helped a friend with a turbo setup.

We used his 93 del sol vtec.
He bought a turbo from someone online. There was no shaft play at all and it was super clean. We welded the wastegate shut and ran an external tial wastegate. The internal wastegate would not clear the radiator.

The intercooler, not sure what kind it is, but it was pretty nice overall. a few bent fins, nothing major.

The pics of his car with the hood and a cf trunk too.. he had these laying in his basement for the longest time.

when we finished the setup one of the injectors leaked. we tested the car, it leaked, so we stopped. i had him replace the seals and tighten them, and they were good.

he took it to a shop to have it tuned (because all we did was make it idle and rev up) and we didnt have a wideband or any of the sort. the plan was to run the hack for a while and upgrade to uberdata, or hondata later on with a better setup.

he took it to the shop, they brought it in, hooked up a wideband (went and checked honda-tech for vafc settings) and adjusted the vafc to 4in 4 out (which it should be 6 i believe..) then they brought the fuel up to 0 from -50. and went to -50 and back to 0 at idle til it stalled. (we ran 440cc injectors..) On the phone later the guy said he was "clearing the afc basemap).

Well long story short. after they did this with the settings, they went to move the car out and smoke started rolling out from the hood. compression test... 30 80 120 150 from passanger side to driver.

they told him he better move his car out of the way so they can pull in someone elses 240. and they asked if he wanted a new engine, they would 'make him a deal' since he came to their shop...

sigh... i wasnt there for the whole story.. but..

i went to this shop Showdown Motorsports in Toledo Ohio, and I was looking for an axle. The guy brought one out after he matched it up with the one i had. he said 25 bucks, i was like ok.. i looked at the axle and the boot had dry rotted.. and i was like "can i get a different one thats not all cracked up?"

the owner said "thats fine, it will work. that wont hurt anything.. besides its 25 bucks for a 50 dollar axle (btw they cost 50 new.. i checked at autozone) well i told the guy "you can either give me a good one, or my old axle and i will go somewhere else" he gave me one that was alright..

so.. all and all.. the shop is a shady place.. sucks my friend went there and had that happen to his car.

on with the pics...

My friend (nate)

the manifold..

All the work.. and we didnt even get to rape the ---- out of it...

oh well.. when i want my car tuned im going to showdown

Did you try dumping some oil in the cylinders to see if it would bump it back up? It probably washed the cylinders with all the gas the dumbasses were dumping into it while they were "clearing the basemap"

Haha, it does look like a Gaymaro hood.

I'm not going to flame it because it has/had a HMT kit on it. Let him have his ricer hood as long as it's boosted.

in all defense about the hood.. he liked it when he bought it.. but wasnt to happy when we put it on..

i personally think.. well it would be cool if he was trying to go for the whole show ricer style.. lol.. he has a bodykit too (but then again, i also own one). but he is not going to put it on. he started out with the whole "looks over everything.."

and i got him a little closer to function over form.. or.. rather.. boosted over ricer.. haha

i'll agree with that

at least he is not putting the bodykit on though

the next setup we are looking at, will probably be a full kit... haha.. that was hard to say...

after fixing the engine (with the extra money from the turbo sale )
the next setup will look a little better.. and work a lot better. he is going to have it tuned by a guy in southern ohio that he knows.

but hey, every ricer has to start somewhere..
