a inline 6 motor can handle more power because it has more main bearings than a V6. think of the size difference between the crank in an inline compared to a V

I could argue that a shorter crank means theres less surface area for stress points as well.

TRD
no body builds v6 motor either as far as "pro race teams".

Power per liter... The cars that really make the best power per liter is ( the skyline 2.5L I-6, supra 3.0L I-6 ) and ALL THE DAMN HONDA and DSM guys !!! The baddest cars are all either V8 or Inline...

Fastest stealth/3000gt in the world runs 10.7, its a V-6, I saw a supra run 8.9 on drag radial !!!

There are extremly few people making 600+hp on the vr-4 motor ( 6g72TT ), how many people have you heard of that have 600+hp supras ?? there has to be hundrends.

Guess what breaks first on buick GNs ?? The iron rods ? the cast pistons ? the iron crank NOPE, the block !! Why b/c the V-6 style pulls it apart from the oil galley.

V-6 motor also have worse wear. Gravity is consently pulling down on the cylinder walls.

Why do 5.0 blocks break before 600hp ? They don't have enough main caps. Guess what. A I-8 ( if possible ) would have more main caps.

The main thing that makes the "Inline" better is that it has more main caps. The rods in the middle on a V6 motor have no main cap between them ( no room ), but the I-6 motor does.

The really sick 1600hp buick motors goto a different style v6 called "on-center" stage2. It basiclly makes more for more main caps.

Tell me one v-6 that can make 1000hp on a stock block... The supra can.

I-6 also tends to weigh less b/c it only has one head and two cams vs two heads and four cams ( in the case of 2Jz vs 6g72 ).
Honda = inline ( Everything that worth modding )
Nissan = inline( Sr20 ), and its v6TT is weak comprared to toyotas I-6, inline( RB30 or what ever skyline motor )
Toyota = I-6 that rules all, and the supra USED TO be a V6, but they changed it to a I-6.. wonder why ??
Mistu = inline ( 4g63 ) and its v6TT is slower.
BMW = M3 is a I-6 and everybody loves it !!
Most tractor trailer ( semis ) are Inline motors too.

I own a quad cam V6 twin turbo car, but Inlines are just better...

Still waiting on a I-8..
The I-6 in the newer chevy "trail blazer" also kicked eveyones *** in baja racing when they lowered the compression and twin turbo'd it, but it was on stock GM internals !!!

i'm with hunch... i think the 2jzgte is the (or one of) best made motors ever, what else can you put 900hp onto with stock bottom end?

BMW M3 and M5 that's who, the inline 6 is a great motor.
Back to the subject of turboing a Jeep 4.0L, that would make a great tractor pull engine or a tow rig but it has a very low rev limit, also your 99 model is OBD2 so its going to be a pain to get it to run right, I think its got the returnless fuel system also (supply line to the motor, no return line to the tank). The bottom end on that motor is bullet proof, It should handle boost all day long, but the rest of it is going to be tough. Now if you had the V8

Just thought I would inform 89dxhunchback that the I-8 had been around for years. I can think of one off the top of my head that ran at bonneville in the 60's.

I figured someone made a ineffent one 50 years ago, but I meant more along the lines of DOHC and 350hp.

Noless, I bet its freaking HUGE !!

i was thinking of dirt track racers, they all use v6s. they can get enough hp out of them, and save the extra weight of the v8.

also.

i seen a 502ci big block chevy with a ati procharger make 1200hp @ 15psi. completely stock 502. nothin broke. and they ran the ---- out of it.

btw i've never seen anyone break a cast iron block on a v6 or a v8. i've seen and heard of a lot of inline6s blowin up

hunch you're comparing a eclipse with a inline 4 being faster than a v6TT. but the v6TT is in a 5000 pound boat of a car...

grab a 4.3l GM v6 and you could make 1000hp out of it without it breaking if you tuned it right.

i've never seen a supra make 1000hp with the stock engine.
i've seen them make 600.

there are a lot of examples of inline 6 race engines cause they come in so many cars. most cars with i6 engines are gas guzzler's for their output and liters from what i've seen.

No, one has given a reason other then other 'cars' that have inline engines to disprove me. I am waiting for inginuity answers, please.

I see the horizontally opposed engine as using gravity to its own advantage, same with Audi's diamond motor (in testing). But theres no difference in the methods of compression, between a V and an in-line.

We can compare a Subaru 'boxter' style 4 cylinder to a Honda, and simply put the Porsche design for engines produces greater torque per liter, because they:
a) cool better
b) have less gravity to fight against
c) closed deck

Of course, comparing an open deck to a closed deck motor is rather poor, theres alot of difference in the way the motors run and are cooled.

The HO 6's are capable of great power as well, but Porsche packs everything so tightly its hard to get enough upgrades in (not to mention, its a light body frame).

So disprove me without using 'x' car does 'x' in the 1/4 mile because that doesn't tell me jack ---- other then car manufacturers are still using outdated designs because of international copyrights.
