Default Turbo variations by placement

I am considering a turbo setup on my car, but I dont want the hassle of fitting it under the hood. I like the STS rear mounted turbo setup, but was thinking of fabbing up my own system. The main question I have is this: If I buy a T3/T4 turbo, what would I need to alter in order for it to perform the best in the rear mounted position with no cats or mufflers. I know the exhuast gas velocity would be much different so are the impellers/turbines different between front and rear mounted turbos? This is on a 5.0L V8 engine.

You`ll need a scavenger oil pump for the turbo oil return.
What kind of car is this setup going to be put in?

The car is my 83 Pontiac Trans Am H.0. which is anything but High output at a pathetic 150 hp and 240 tq.

I've known of a couple people having the STS rear mount turbo, and they loved it and said the lag wasnt that bad, but that the turbo's were built a bit different than normal turbo's. Those difference's are what I'm trying to find out.

As far as oiling is concerned I'm not concerned with oil return to engine since I would fab up a stand alone oiling system just for the turbo with its own resevoir and a cooler which I think would be far superior to using oil running through engine which is already taxed by heat and load. And rear placement also helps with heat. The turbo doesnt get as hot so its more reliable, and the intake air is cooler due to a cooler running turbo and the added time the air has between turbo and intake.

And as far as not wanting it under the hood, another reason is because I'm wanting a clean engine bay look with as little clutter as possible. All wiring and hose routing is being hidden as best as possible and the thought of trying to integrate a turbo into this plan just doesnt seem possible.

Funny how people who bash the remote mount setups have little to no experience with them. They work fine, considering the fastest FI car on the LS1Tech boards is running 7s with a rear mount 106mm, but yeah, rear mounts suck ***** ..

Some advice
-Heatwrap the exhaust piping from the header back or as much as you can, you want to keep the heat in the pipe to help the turbo spool up
-Turbo doesn't have to be special built, but maybe run a smaller exhaust housing depending on the specs of the T3/T4
-Shurflo makes a real nice scavange pump, PN 8000-642-23 is what I would use
-STS kits blow, and most of their vendors have to add a lot of bits and pieces to the kits to make them work right, so you are definately better off doing your own setup
-No need to run a complete standalone oil system, just run the scavange pump and you will be fine
-Don't buy the bullshit that the increased charge piping length replaces and intercooler, run a front mount/side mount or whatever, but don't buy the bullshit that the piping has a huge cooling effect
-Filter socks are a good idea for cars that you drive daily, but they do hamper performance a bit, so that decision is on you

Hope some of that helped, and RobertPadron is a ******...
