Default Toyota Celica 3sge st202 - with 3sgte st205 turbo???

Hi all,

I have a toyota celica st202 import with a 3sge engine. Now its fast but not fast enough, and Ive searched for a low cost option of increasing power but cant find one. Everyone seems to do engine conversions (i.e dump a 3sgte engine from a st205 in), or buy an aftermarket turbo kit.

I was thinking though, after I saw a turbo with intercooler stripped off a st205 gt4 being sold for £250, could I fit one of those to my st202 engine? The engines seem to be simular after all...

Does anyone know if this has been done or whether it could be done? I can get hold of the turbo itself (ct26 turbo off a gt4 celica), the intercooler and the manifold. What else will I need to perform the conversion? Will I need to uprate the injectors? Will the internals be ok? What will need doing to the ecu? And whats the cheapest way of controling boost (will any of these do?)

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/sear...&fsop=1&fsoo=1

Any advice much appreciated. If you need more info just ask.

Not a fan of the CT's but whatever works. You can sit and fight with the stock computer all day long but in the end your better off with a stand alone on ANY 3s based engine. Factory computer blows, and piggybacking it is more trouble than its worth. (voice of experience)
Search teh internez about the MAP ECU. Its a cheap solution and I think they make a plug-and-play for your setup.
Stock 3sge (i assume its a BEAMS engine?) injectors will run out pretty quick. 3sgte 1st-2nd gen have 440cc injectors stock, youll probably need at least this. Not sure if your fuel rail is top or side. 3sgte injectors are side feed 440s and 7mgte are top feed 440s. Both are low impedence and require a resistor pack.

I found a good site where it takes you through the conversion step by step:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/3sgeturbo/

This guy used:

For this turbo conversion Stage 1, im goin to be running low boost to
say 5psi with out any engine eternal mods.
Im going to be using a t3 turbo, as those found on escort, fiats,
volvos, and renualts ect.

For this conversion my list is as follows :-

1 T3 Complete Turbo Unit
1 GT4 Mainfold
1 GT4 sump for oil return
1 T3 to Toyota Maifold Adapter
2 Custom oil lines
2 Custom water pipes
1 RST1 Intercooler
1 Dumpvalve
1 Custom exhaust downpipe

Various gaskets, sealents,Lenghts of silcon tubing and Alluminium
piping

1 Apexi - itc For timing
1 Apexi -SAFC2 for fueling

1 boost gauge
1 oil pressure gauge
1 oil temp gauge

Ill be doing the same but with a gt4 (ct26) turbo/gt4 intercooler as I can get them dirt cheap and requires no mods to manifold. He seems to have made it work using Apexi - itc For timing, and Apexi -SAFC2 for fueling. I think these are piggy back systems? Whats goona be my cause of trouble with piggybacking?

Quote:
Fueling using stock injectors should be adequate running low boost.
Will will be using an Apexi SAFC fuel computer for this. This works
by modifying the Pressure signal from the head. Through the rev range
similar to the ITC so more or less fuel can be added to the engine.

He also doesnt use any uprated injectors. Its not the BEAMS engine, mine is a 1994 6th gen celica and I think only post 1997 celicas had those!? Anything missing on the parts list?
Cheers
