Question Need infos on Garrett AVNT turbo inputs

Hello experts!

I'm trying to adapt a garrett GT3782 AVNT (advance variable nozzle turbine) in my car. Basically, the tubine can be adjusted to be able to boost, even at low RPM. They are mostly used in diesel trucks.

So I have this turbo that doesn't use a wastegate and I need to know what signal input it requires to modulate the turbine. I'm electronically literate, I know it requires a PWM (pulsed width modulation) signal but beyond that:

What is the voltage (0-5V?), frequency (duty cycle) and the load (current required). If anyone could pull that kind of information (or any other info, for that matter) from a vault, I would be forever redeemable!

hmm, sounds like a nice project! is that a VNT turbo from a TDI engine? i'm working on putting a GT2052V from a Audi 2.5l TDI onto a 2.0l gasser. i'd love to get one of those with an electronic actuation, since mine only works with a vacuum can (actuated by an electronic vacuum pump and valve on the original application) and i have some trouble figuring out a decent control for my project.

i'm a computer/electronic engineer in training myself, but unfortunately i have no idea how to come up with the infos you need, sorry pal. good luck with it, i hope someone will chime in on this since it really sounds intriguing

Hey! Thanks for the reply!

Actually it's a AVNT turbo (the A (advanced) means the controls are all integrated inside the turbo). It came from a big new truck (Ford? GM? Not sure) that was scrapped after a failed road test...

I asked the question on a couple of forums but nothing so far... I guess I'll have to find a volunteer truck and make the readings myself!

I'll keep you informed!

hi,

guess i should have known that something as big as a GT37 would come from one of the bigger diesel truck powerplants best bet would be to get an oscilloscope and analyze the signals on one of these trucks yourself if you know how to do it, i bet that gets you the most complete information. dunno if you have access to an osci or the truck though lol.

good luck and keep us (me?) posted

Turbo Talk - View topic - Variable nozzle/geometry turbochargers.....

Someone else who has some experience working with them, and some information on a turbo that if not the same one, is very similar to yours.

well i know that the diesels use two batteries , still 12v system but i think that the are linear so the amperage might be different right ? hahaha i know why i posted hope that helps
