I can't afford to buy a jeep turbo kit, but I live out in the country, and we have tons of junkyards out here. I was thinking of getting a small turbo kit from a saab, or a talon.

This is just a project in mind, but I would like it to make a reality out of it. So I require a bit of guideline. If anyone here has done a home made turbo kit on their Jeep, I would love some info on what was required on your setup.

I'm not looking to make a massive amount of horse power, I was thinking of adding an extra 150 hp on top of what I have now. Something like 5, to 10 psi keeping it safe. It's my daily driver, and the cops could be crude out here in Canada.

If you guys have pictures of your 4.0L turbo I would love some links also. Thank you everyone in advance.

Default Wrangler TJ

Installed the AEM FIC 6 on the Wrangler problems solved plenty of gas with the 30# injectors up to 13psi boost AFR around 13:1 took some time to dial it in but works great. The stock ECU sends CEL Injector circuit open for all 6 injectors. I used 5ohm 20watt wire wound resistors from the negative output ECM to the Positve of injectors to simulate load and ECU is happy now Closed Loop mode when tooling around town Open loop after few psi boost and the fuel table takes over and gives it what it needs along with the Ignition Map to retard the timing.

I did my own custom turbo set up on my Cherokee, I used a T3 T4 60 trim turbo. I am currently running 10 pounds of boost. For fuel system I installed injectors from a 2004 Mustang cobra. The 2004 cobra injectors are actually different injectors than your stock wiring harness so you will have to rewire the stock wire harness to the connectors for the cobra. The cover uses a injector that is a Ev6 style is why you have to rewire it. For reference, timing is not adjustable through the distributor on a Jeep Cherokee 4.0. In order to adjust timing you have to remove the crankshaft sensor and drill the holes larger in the bracket to be able to adjust timing. The reason why you have to adjust timing this Way is because the computer controls the timing on a Jeep Cherokee 4.0 or even any Jeep 4.0 motor. Down the road I do plan install a standalone computer system like an AEM or Fast system so I can tune it more. I did also disconnect my stock O2 sensor that way it leaves it open loop so the computer doesn't try to lean about so much. I also am planning to change out the fuel system and use a different pump and lines so that I can get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator due to my Jeep being renix so I've been able to find an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for it. Also since my jeep is a Renix I had to build a custom elbow with mounting bracket for the stock throttlebody because mine doesn't have the lip to build a put the hose on to. Here is a couple pics of my set up

On a sidenote I forgot to mention before that I also ran a 2° colder spark plug and closed the gap down to .30 us to assure that I wasn't blowing out the spark which I would highly recommend anybody doing turbo.
