Default cheap way to setup a 350 and go FI

I got this 70s model 350 I have swapped the vortec heads onto and well it just is not enough. I dont quite want a 383 yet, cause of the work and hell you done spent a grand before you get started on block work at least.

I was going to maybe try to find some forged internals and some sort of cheap force induction (as in a supercharger/turbocharger off another model or something I can retro fit) Im kinda bored with the truck so its time to change it up some.

What are your power goals, budget and intended usage? Also how are your fabrication skills? Do you have any EFI programming experience?
I'd consider a singleplane EFI manifold, or Holley Stealth Ram with a reprogrammed '730 or '427 ecu. For that info look on thirdgen.org its the best source of info on tuning/modding GM efi systems. The current state of hacked GM ecu's makes them very inexpensive to retrofit and tune. I've been retrofitting quite a few cars recently, including a pair of 30's streetrods with GM computers running modified programs (not just recalibrated stock programs) with great success. Doing the wiring harnesses and fabricating fuel lines and such I have been able to do it for a few hundred bucks a car. The most expensive part is the manifold, and with the vortec heads you will have a few less choices than traditional heads.
My estimated cost.
manifold 50.00 - 400.00
Fuel rails 35.00 (drill and tap yourself)
wiring harness 50.00 (modified factory harness plus any new wiries/plugs/looms etc..)
distributor 25.00 (small cap hei found on most TBI cars/trucks)
25.00 (used '96+ vortec pumps from pick-n-pull, 2 in parallel if you go turbo)
ECU 25.00-30.00 ('727, '749 , '730 , '427 OBD1 P4 type ecu's )
27SF512 flash chip 5.00
ALDL cable 59.00 (aldlcable.com)
eprom burner 85.00 (moates burn2)
best tuning software FREE (tunerpro V5)
emulator (optional) 179.00 (ostrich2 for realtime tuning)
wideband (optional) 150.00 (14point7.com SLC wideband FTW!!)

alternatively you could go with the megasquirt on a budget system. final cost wont really be that much more than a modified Delco if you are doing just one. You wont need the eprom burner, emulator or ALDL cable. If you are retrofitting multiple vehicles then the Delco setup becomes more economical.

With forced induction on a Delco ECU you'd probably want to run "code59", look it up, it does 3bar and closed-loop wideband. Its heavily modified Syclone/Typhoon code.

For the forced induction My personal preference would be a pair of Holset's. 2 HX35's or 2 HE351VE's would rock!
Of course you can go less DIY fabrication/modification and just buy aftermarket. Some aftermarket EFI computers are better than a modified Delco, MANY ARE NOT, and all are much more expensive with price not always reflecting capability. Do research from multiple sources/forums.

Well I got a turbonectics t70 and I was going to put it on here. Its more less a stock 350 I just want some more power out of.

This is already a 310hp and 300tq motor. I just want a little something more. I can probably get a motor already with the efi or a throttle body on it if that will help?

It depends on what you have now, and what you can get. If you want to run a hydraulic roller cam getting a later model block at the outset is a big plus. But if you already have a good shortblock then you can get away with some aftermarket roller lifters. Running a factory roller cam is really the only reason to look for a later model block, the earlier ones usually have thicker castings, especially the heads.

turbo 350 would be fun but the only problem i see is that the earlier blocks were weak with the 2 bolt mains and the two piece rear main seal. if i were you i would purchase a damaged/wrecked late 80's/early 90's camaro/transam/corvette with a tpi fuel injection system. these blocks were stonger with the 4 bolt mains and the one piece rear main seal. stock tpi fuel injection system should be more than capable of handling 6-10 psi boost without any issues. the cheapest way to boost it with the stock tpi system would be to install and extra injector controller for added fuel under boost. this is what supercharger kits used on these vehicles in the 90's. a nice extra injector controller will run anywhere from 250-400.00 + injectors and fuel rail.
