Default 325i turbo build question

I was wondering if I ran low boost, less than 10psi, would I be able to run the enginge stock software wise just for awhile til funds become available and until I understand the WAR chip tuning? I already have everything I need to do the build except the tune so I'm holding off. Also if I were to go this route would the maf be better located in the charge piping (blow through I believe is the correct term) or from the atmosphere, maf, turbo inlet? Thanks!
Drew

10 psi with no tune will blow the motor quickly. the most boost the stock ecm and injectors can support is 2-3psi.

a few options with the maf:

if you want a bov that vents to atmosphere then the maf sensor will need to be mounted in the charge pipe close to the throttle body.

if the maf sensor has a built in intake temp sensor then you will want to mount it in the charge pipe close to the throttle body.

if you want a bypass valve(boost recirculates back into the turbo inlet pipe) then the maf sensor must be mounted on the air inlet pipe of the turbo. if temp sensor built in you can rewire it to use a gm screw in type intake temp sensor and install it on the charge pipe near the throttle body.

my advise to you is purchase a megasquirt 2 or 3 standalone. it gets rid of your stock ecm and maf. it uses a speed density system (map sensor). you can tune it with a laptop instead of constantly burning chips. my buddy used it on his boosted e30 with great results. theres plenty of bmw forums that can get you started on a base map for them. for a little more, they have plug and play units. megasquirt also has a self tune feature to dial in your pulse width.

Hey Drew,
What engine and associated parts are you running? I'm pretty sure that the WAR chip (user programmable) normally uses their (miller motorsport) MAF as a draw through. The miller chip comes preloaded with a turbo tune that's supposed to be good to 20psi. Do you have the miller stuff already or just the hard parts. Nice guys over at miller BTW, I was at their shop last week.

Ted.
