but the joints tight together and sugaring won't be a problem.no need to leave a gap for a root pass with headers.remember to use pure argon with the mig with stainless not a mixed gas or co2.use .023" wire and practice first like you said.keep a close arc with the tip of the mig gun ,no more than 3/8 -1/2 inch.if you weld it downhand it will lay flatter for you.that does not mean you point the gun down.it means to weld on a downward slope pulling the gun backwards and letting the wire keep the puddle where you want it.go to you tube and look there for examples.maybe put in mig welding downhand or something.a picture is worth a thousand words.good luck.PRACTICE FIRST.

there is a chemical that you can paint on the inside of the seams of your weld that will prevent sugaring. It works well and it is inexpensive. I cant remember the name of it off the top of my head. But it is a powder that you mix with alcohol to make a thin paste with.

yeah, the chemical is called solar flux...

guys, I'm real sorry I just did my post & then disappeared for a while, been really tied up lately but I'll post more soon as I can...
