Default Great General Welder? LINCOLN ELETRIC MIG PAK 15 MIG-WELDER KIT K693 **GOOD?**

I can get this welder for around $420is USD. Comes as a kit Isuppose, brand new from lincoln with warranty I would hope.
I want this welder to fabricate things like downpipes, tractions bars and I want to buy the kit so I can weld aluminum. Also wonderring if it will plug into a standard 220V plgu or standard household plug

Heres the specs

http://content.lincolnelectric...n.pdf

• 30-175 amps output.
• Welds up to 1/2 in. steel (with Innershield® NR-212 wire electrode).
• Ready to weld with MIG on mild steel. Shielding gas and gas regulator/hose kit sold separately. Weld .035" or .045" self-shielded (gasless) flux-cored wire. Optional Innershield Welding Kit required for .045".
• Operates on 208V or 230V single-phase power.
• Gun trigger safety feature keeps welding wire electrically "cold" until trigger is pressed.
• Compact, portable, lightweight and easy-to-use.
• This combination wire feeder/CV power source is recommended for .023-.035" solid wire MIG (gas-shielded) welding of virtually any light gauge, mild steel or stainless steel material (stainless steel wire sold separately). Install K664-2 Aluminum Welding Kit to expand the MIG-PAK 15's capabilities to include .035" solid wire MIG welding of aluminum.
• Welder settings reference chart conveniently located inside wire feed section door makes it easy to set the MIG-PAK 15 for mild steel welding jobs.
• Fan-cooled for long life expectancy.

Is this a great welder for the price? OR should I just try and find a chicago electric mig 151 welder? Are they about the same?

Thanks guys

sounds like your standard mig welder to me. 420 for just the welder is an ok price, not too great. You still have to buy the shielding gas kit (regulator, lines) and get a tank, which is sorta expensive. If your looking to do aluminum, you'll NEED a spool gun and the shielding gas, otherwise the wire bind in the line going to the gun(lack of spool gun), and welds will be ---- without argon gas. get a TIG if you want to do aluminum, takes a little more skill but welds alot better.

I assume you are talking about a SP-175. They suck for aluminium. But it is the greatest machine for its price and useablity. It is cheaper and better than a Miller Millermatic. If you want to weld Aluminum and get a generator or rectifer power unit that can run a 1# spool in the gun like a Miller Spoolmate 3035.

not trying to hijack, but, is the Lincoln pro-mig 135 a decent welder to start off with for a gas mig? Its really one of the few in my price range and it seems much better then then millermatic 140.
