Default EGR valve elimination? need help

I've got an 1985 Shelby Charger with a stock turbo 1 engine.
the only upgrade is a performance logic module installed in 2003. see pic
A mechanic says I can remove the EGR valve without causing durability or timing issues.
is this true?

Yes you can remove it. All it does is recirculate some exhaust back into the intake for a more complete burn. It is for smog control and without it the inlet fuel charge won't be contaminated with exhaust. Analyze your vacuum hose routing to make sure it isn't controlling vacuum advance and cap off the vacuum port.

Hope this helps
